Born in 1994, GO Won-hee had an interest in acting ever since she was a child. In elementary school, she would go to open auditions all by herself, unbeknownst to her parents who were adamantly opposed. It was while attending a middle school in China that she became resolute in pursuing an acting career and managed to convince her parents to let her apply for an arts high school. She entered the Hanlim Arts High School, with a specialization in dramatics, and in 2010, just a few months before graduating, she made her debut as a commercial model. She then enlisted for a degree in theater and film at Chung-Ang University, and in 2012 she was chosen by Asian Airlines as their new spokesmodel. After bit roles in a TV series and films – among which <Don’t Click> (2011), in an attempt to broaden her acting range, she took on the role of an actress who apparently committed suicide after a rumor spread that she had an affair with a politician in <Tabloid Truth> (2013). She earned much praise for the restrained performance she gave as the young Queen Jangnyeol in the period drama series <Blooded Palace: The War of Flowers> (2013). She was particularly busy in 2015, as she played opposite screen legends like LEE Sung-jae and KIM Gyu-ri in another historical drama series, <The King’s Face> (2015), and was hired as a regular member of Saturday Night Live Korea and made a sensation with a parody of 50 Shades of Gray, but she eventually left the show before the end of the season. It was also that year that she landed her first lead role, in the soap opera <Star Dust>. Having moved to indie fare with the melodrama <Blossom> (2015), she had her big break through two independent films that debuted that year at Busan International Film Festival, namely <Merry Christmas Mr. Mo> (2017), winner of the NETPAC Award, and the indie sensation <After My Death> (2017), which took home one of the two New Currents Awards. She was particularly noted for her role in the latter, as she played a high school student struggling with feelings of culpability over a friend’s suicide. Always on the lookout for opportunities to challenge herself, GO took viewers by surprise when she came back in 2018 in a youth comedy series, <Welcome to Waikiki> (2018), as a rookie journalist who is nicknamed Chewbacca due to her facial pilosity. More recently, she returned to Joseon Dynasty-set series with <Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency> (2019) and starred in the romcom series <Eccentric! Chef Moon> in 2020.
