Lee Haeyoung, born in 1970, debuted as a stage actor in 1989 before studying dramatics at the Seoul Institute of the Arts. He then moved to stage musicals in 1994, and his first contribution to films was as the singer of the title song for the comedy <The Man Wagging Tail> (1994). He could also be seen as part of a musical performance sighted in the melodrama <Over The Rainbow> (2002). His film career really debuted in 2005 with a supporting role in <Murder, Take One>, a crime comedy helmed by Jang Jin. This collaboration with his friend and fellow theatre graduate would result in five more comedy films, <Righteous Ties> (2006), <Going By The Book> (2007), <Good Morning President> (2009), <The Quiz Show Scandal> (2010) and <We Are Brothers> (2014). He also worked with another director who debuted as a stage director, Lee Junik, on his period action drama film <Blades of Blood> (2009). Lee gained wider recognition among the public thanks to his small screen appearances, first with a recurring role from 2008 to 2010 in the long-running comedy TV series <Ugly Miss Young-Ae>, and later as part of the cast of the Korean version of Saturday Night Live for its first season. In recent years, he became a regular face with several supporting roles in a number of highly successful film, starting with the historical war epic <Roaring Currents> (2013), which still holds the much-coveted title of most viewed Korean film of all time with 17.6 million admissions. This was followed by <THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE> (2015), <The Himalayas> (2015) and <Confidential Assignment> (2016), which all sold millions of tickets. After that, he focused his attention on television works, and he notably appeared in the historical series <The King: Eternal Monarch> (2020) and the season 2 of the critically acclaimed crime thriller series <Stranger> (2020).
