LOVESONG and SPA NIGHT to Premiere in Park City

Sundance Selects New Films from KIM So-yong and Andrew AHN

Two new films from Korean-American filmmakers have been invited to premiere in the US Dramatic Competition of next year’s Sundance Film Festival. KIM So-yong returns to Park City with her new feature Lovesong while Andrew AHN also returns to the festival with his first feature film Spa Night.

KIM debuted as a filmmaker in 2007 with In Between Days in Korea and found wide acclaim with her subsequent feature Treeless Mountain (2009), about two young sisters who are shuttled back and forth between uncaring family members. She next made the American production For Ellen, starring Paul Dano, which debuted at Sundance in 2012. Featuring Jena Malone, Brooklyn Decker and Rosanna Arquette, Lovesong sees a neglected wife embark on a road trip with her daughter and best friend.

After his studies at Brown University and the California Institute of the Arts, AHN debuted with the short Andy, which picked up the Best Narrative Short award at the 2011 San Diego Asian Film Festival. His next short DOL (FIRST BIRTHDAY) premiered at Sundance in 2012. AHN raised funds for his debut film Spa Night through Kickstarter. The film follows a young Korean-American who tries to balance family obligations with his sexual identity as he cruises the Korean spas of Los Angeles.

The 2016 Sundance Film Festival will unspool over January 21st to 31rd in Park City, Utah.
