Jeonju Cinema Project to Feature in Filmmakers of the Present Competition

El Movimiento, one of this year’s Jeonju Cinema Projects, will make the trip to Switzerland later this week, to compete in the Locarno International Film Festival’s Filmmakers of the Present Competition.

The 67-minute black and white co-production between Argentina and South Korea was directed by Beníamin Naishtat and debuted earlier this year at the
Jeonju International Film Festival, which helped finance the project. Naishtat previously won Jeonju’s Grand Prize for
History of Fear in 2014. The languid and beautifully shot production takes place in Argentina in 1835 as a group of rogues led by Señor attempt to set up a political movement.

Also competing in Locarno will be
HONG Sangsoo, who will vie for the fest’s top prize (the Golden Leopard) with his latest feature
Right Now, Wrong Then. The auteur previously picked up the Silver Leopard for Best Director when his feature
Our Sunhi was featured in 2013.

Elsewhere, in the Jury’s Choice section, Locarno will present
The Actress, the short that marks the directing debut of
MOON So-ri, as well as
LEE Chang-dong’s modern classic
Oasis, which netted the actress the Marcello Mastroianni Award at the Venice International Film Festival in 2002.

The Locarno International Film Festival will kick off its 68th edition this coming Wednesday (August 5th) and run until the following Saturday (August 15th).
